KABUL – In a recent operation near the Afghanistan border, Pakistani troops have allegedly raided a suspected militant hideout, resulting in the elimination of three militants. The Pakistani military disclosed this development on Tuesday.

The raid, which occurred in Khyber, a district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, targeted a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban. Among the casualties was a prominent militant commander, as stated in an official military announcement.

While the military refrained from providing further details, they did note that the targeted militants had previously engaged in hostilities against Pakistani troops.

The Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, though distinct from the Afghan Taliban, maintain an alliance with them. This connection has become more pronounced in the wake of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan two years ago, following the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces after two decades of conflict. The emboldened Pakistani Taliban have subsequently intensified their attacks on police and military personnel.
